Despite all that, it was a solid year for Hollywood. The studios churned out classics for all ages that are still worth re-watching today. Here is just a sampling of the ones celebrating their 10th birthday this year.

2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

You should take any chance to see old-man baby Brad Pitt on screen. Warning, you will shed tears.

3. Step Brothers

Will Ferral and John C. Reilly are like peanut butter and jelly. Enough said.

4. WALL-E

Across the board, critics raved about this Pixar classic, and honestly, you're a monster if you didn't find yourself in love with the film.

5. Slumdog Millionaire

It came out of nowhere and swept up the Academy Awards, snagging Best Picture, Best Director and much more. If that doesn't convince you to re-watch this masterpiece, I'm not sure what will.

6. The Dark Knight

The death of Heath Ledger occurred shortly after he had finished filming scenes for The Dark Knight. You can watch for the action sequences, sure, but stay for Ledger's incredibly chilling performance as the Joker. RIP to the legend.

7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Nineteen years later and we were able to see Harrison Ford return as Indiana Jones. And it was horrible. What a time to be alive.

8. Milk

2008 was a big year for LGBTQ rights with California's Proposition 8 passed in the November elections, legalizing same-sex marriages in the state. The release of this film was a great precursor.

9. Taken

It's spawned memes for the latter part of its 10-year existence—who knows what even more time will give this Liam Neeson gem.

10. Mama Mia!

The return of ABBA! Need we say more? Oh and also, a sequel is gearing up for a 2018 release so brush up on this fun one before Mamma Mia! Here We Go Againcomes out.
