Snowden, a former contractor for the U.S. government, currently has temporary asylum in Moscow, Russia, after leaking classified documents from the National Security Agency that revealed the agency was spying on U.S. citizens.
Trump, who had previously commended Comey on his investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails, fired the FBI director for *exactly* the reason you think. That's right, the White House said it fired Comey for the way he handled the Clinton investigation, despite evidence that investigation helped get Trump elected. Not because Comey was investigating the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Russia or anything.
While that's enough to scratch your head over, Comey's firing was recommended by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had already recused himself from the Russia investigation due to his own misleading statements about Russian contacts during his confirmation hearing.
You know, normal, everyday democracy type stuff.
